CATEGORIES & PRIVILEGES OF MEMBERSHIP
To be called to salvation as well as service is a grace from God and, therefore, a privilege. Different categories of membership carry with it different privileges of service.
A Baptized Member — a person who has received the sacrament of baptism but who has not made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Privileges:
· To be subject to the pastoral care of the church.
· To submit to the instruction of the church.
· To participate in the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.
An Active Member — a person who has made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ, has received the Sacrament of Baptism, has voluntarily submitted to the government of the church, and participates in the church’s work and worship.
Privileges:
· To be subject to the pastoral care of the church.
· To submit to the instruction of the church.
· To present children for baptism.
· To take part in meetings of the congregation.
· To vote and hold office.
· To participate in the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.
An Inactive Member — a person who no longer participates in the church’s work and worship.
Privileges:
· To be subject to the pastoral care of the church.
· To submit to the instruction of the church.
· To present children for baptism.
· To participate in the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.
An Affiliate Member — a person who is an active member of another church, who has temporarily moved from the community where active membership is situated, and who has presented a certificate of good standing for that church.
Privileges:
· To be subject to the pastoral care of the church.
· To submit to the instruction of the church.
· To present children for baptism.
· To take part in meetings of the congregation.
· To participate in the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.
Non-Members — persons who have not publicly responded to Christ’s call to the church.
Privileges:
· To participate in the life and worship of the church.
· If baptized, to participate in the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.
· If baptized, to submit to the instruction of the church.
· If baptized, to be subject to the pastoral care of the church.
· If a professing member of another church, to present children for baptism.
